So this gwine be a down time weekend, although I sit at Job #1 right now. But I sit in my office and it's nice and quiet outside. Soon I'll go to lunch. Tonight Jon and I will go for a nice long bike ride. We went on a short-ish one last night, just to dinner w/his nearby friend/neighbor Nate and then to the coffee shop where we shared carrot cake. Jon and I both need some down time, as this past week has been wild and wacky!
Monday I rushed to Jon's right after work so we could go pick up Nate and get to one of their sweet millionaire friends' house--the one we visited on NY Day. We had a drink at the house before the driver (nice!--Love having a driver!) took us to the rodeo, along with another of their millionaire friends and another local noted guitarist friend. We were stylin'! We were up in the private box suites! Free booze! Free beer! Free food! Desserts! Our own private server! And later, an ice cream sundae cart came by and made your sundae to order in a little cowboy hat that you could take home!!! Man, oh man. That is LIVING, my friends. We were also excited about Kid Rock performing, and I'd been listening to Kid Rock Pandora station that day to get in the mood, yuk yuk. It was a fun time, and I definitely went over my 2-drink maximum--but I had to! I was living large!
Tuesday night was not nearly as swank but fun as well. Jon rode the rail down to meet me, I jumped on, and we landed at the rodeo early enough to walk around the hall, check out some of the shopping, look at some of the art, and have some rodeo food (I love the stuffed baked potato) before getting to the arena for the KISS concert! We met one of Jon's friends who is a KISS fanatic though our seats were next to Jon's cousin's floor seats--the cousin had given us the tickets. It was standing room only that night--I'd never seen anything like it. KISS put on a killer show. Afterwards Jon and I enjoyed fried delicacies: a friend cupcake for me and fried nutter butters for him. And another successful rodeo is under my belt!
So Weds. night it was great to finally have a little breathing room after going nonstop for the past few days. I went to the jam, natch, to hang out w/Enor and see Jon, and I got to get up and play w/him on the 1st round which is always fun. I have decided it is good for me to play at the jams so that I keep my stage experiences up and my ear sharp. Until I start gigging again, that is.
Thurs. was St. Patrick's Day and that was also a madhouse day for me, as one of my dear friends from college's bands was in town from Dallas to play at the Duck. I haven't seen him since college and he put me on the guest list, so I just had to get my buns there, immediately after Job #2. I spotted him across the crowded tent and he bought me a Guinness! His band was really good and afterwards he gifted me with one of their CD's. We visited briefly, took pictures, and then I was OFF to the west side of town to see Jon play. Enor and my old pal/interior decorator/former hired babysitter J. met me there, also a couple friends of Jon's. Good times and great music, as Jon played w/our harmonica frenemy's rhythm section, which Jon considers to be the best in town and he's probably right. Some jerky guy was hitting on Enor and sat w/us and bought us drinks all night so that was cool. He even gave me $10 to put in Jon's tip jar--Enor still didn't go home w/him though! Oh well!
Tomorrow Jon is playing w/our harmonica frenemy in, of all places, our hometown of Pasadena but I am begging off going so that I can have a DAY to myself so I can shed seriously (still working on Duck Dunn catalog and have other ideas to work on as well) and spend some time at my house. We have a b-day party tomorrow night as well, a tango dancer friend of Jon's I just met, so Sunday will be my day for me, a much-needed one. It's 2 weeks before we leave for Ohio and while Jon and I practiced a little last night, I need to make sure I am nails and ready for anything they throw at me up there.
