Beauty Sleep

I got about 9 hrs of beauty sleep last night, and needed it! As I always say, I need lots and lots of beauty sleep. It's finally starting to get warm and pretty outside and honestly, Sunday was just about perfect: 81 degrees which was warm enough for me to wear a pretty little sundress. We met Jon's family (sisters, mom, and cousins) at a local Mexican restaurant before the baby shower and sat on the patio which was glorious. Then Jon and I walked nearby to get gift cards for the shower and like I said, it was perfect.

The retirement party on Friday went fine, and hopefully Jon and Rich tolerated my bass playing. We opened with Jon singing a song, then Rich sang one, then me! (My Taj that I'm doing.) We played 2 sets and tons of their family and friends were there, including Jon's cool ex-GF and her parents, whom we love. In fact, they're such a big part of Jon's and his family's life (and mine too now) that I need to begin referring to the ex-GF here in the blog as Glo2 and the mom as Glo1 (they both are named Gloria). After the gig Jon felt like a beer!--he rarely drinks!--and he and I went to a new liquor store to look for this Mexican beer he likes and I found the elusive local St. Arnold's Christmas Ale that is soooo fuckin' yummy but it's only here during the holidays. Because the liquor store was new they still had some in stock! Yum! I bought 2 six packs! Then we went to Jon's mom's house, sat on the patio with his National Resonator, and drank beer. Later Jon's dad came over too and joined us and his mom out there, along with the cat, Kiko. Wonderful night.

Saturday we hung around the house, taking it easy, and then Jon, his mom and I went to Glo2's house where her parents were visiting and also another cool girlfriend they have that just had a baby. I had dinner w/all of them the fateful night Jon told me he wanted to be with me, so I'd met them all before. We had a nice little visit w/wine and margaritas and I even played chess with Glo2's little boy. Fun! Unfortunately, we spent more time than planned there b/c we then dropped off Jon's mom, went to see my mom for a bit, and then went to eat at Whataburger, thinking we still had time to go to the rodeo barbeque cookoff (where I've never been before and where Jon's sisters went, along w/his cousins and tons of other people we knew) but then we found out it shut down at 11pm and it was already 9:30 and we hadn't even changed clothes yet! So after much disappointment on my side since I've never been to the cookoff before (Jon's been many times) and Jon's multiple apologies to me, we decided to go see a late showing of The Fighter so I could get one more Oscar-nominated film under my belt before Sunday's Oscars. Good flick!

I ran into Leo at the baby shower on Sunday. He'd already gone to load-in at the House of Blues and was spending the break at the Big Easy. I was tipsy when he came back as I hadn't eaten anything yet (Jon and I had breakfast tacos earlier and I still wasn't hungry) so we kinda tried to discuss business but that wasn't going so well, especially when I needed a bathroom break and then Jon's millionaire friends showed up and I went to hang out with them. I caught up w/them while Jon was playing and got us cupcakes and then I finally ate some of the shower food and they bought me a drink and then the harmonica frenemy asked me if I wanted to get up and I was like, "No" and they said "Come on!" so I acquiesced. Leo got up too but he had to go move his car so I ended up playing a song w/Jon, and then Leo, but then I had to go pee again so I called the other bassist back up. Then I split for home and my couch and the Oscars!

I'm meeting w/Leo tonite at the jam so we can discuss business. I'm not sure what our future together is. We'll see if our musical goals line up. We'll hash some stuff out. We'll see what we will see.
