Weekend With Me Lovely Pals

As predicted, this past weekend was NUTSO. It began on Fri. night w/the Anders Osborne show which, may I just say, ROCKED!!!!!!! I watched from front row, right in front of the bassist. Man, oh man. What a damn show. (Oops, not supposed to be cussin' during Lent, but sometimes these things just slip out.) I was entertained, inspired, awed, etc. etc. etc. I didn't even have a drink after all at midnight b/c I didn't want to have to pause one minute to stop enjoying the show and leave my spot. Phillipo and Enor also had a blast, though they were drinking. I left during the encore b/c my feet were cold and tired and I had to get up so freakin' early; fortunately I got to Jon's in literally about 6 minutes and it was nice to fall asleep in his bed, with him gone. He also was able to call me via Skype on his iPhone twice Fri. night.

Sat. I was up early after 4 hrs. of sleep to go get some kolaches and then get the unmarked unit downtown; Jon called me while I was doing all that, as he'd been asleep the night before around 8pm and so was up early with me. He was going to rest up all day before headlining the blues fest that night. I got to the Academy and we had 15 applicants, which we whittled down to 11 by the end of the day. 1 failed the timed run, 1 had too many tattoos, 1 failed the long jump, etc. It was a long day but entertaining, as we got to spend time in the Taser class while the applicants were taking the written test, and watch as people got Tasered. Always good for tons of laughter and merriment! I didn't get done 'til after 1pm, at which point I dropped off the car, grabbed a snack at Jon's, and ran home to try and get some stuff done. Boof and T were already in town but they offered to wait it out at the Galleria, which I was grateful for since I had tons of stuff I needed to do around the house, practice, work on my file, etc. before meeting them at Dan's by 5.

I got to Dan's by 5 and Jon was able to call me again, which I was so glad for! Boof and T met me there, along w/Phillipo, and we got to see my friends' band play. We had drinks, chips and salsa, and saw another band play before we decided it was time for dinner. Boof chose El Rey and Enor met us and Phillipo there. Enor said we needed to go see our other friends' band play, and since we had time to kill before going to see our other friends' band (from UNT college days!) play, I thought it a capital idea! (It didn't hurt that this band has Houston's best drummer in it, and the most handsome drummer--a friend of mine and Jon's and also who I had a couple dates with way back in the day!) We had fun there, and they dedicated a song to me. Awww!

Then it was time to go to the next show. We carpooled in my car. It was at a swank hotel bar and I normally wouldn't have gone, but a friend of ours from UNT days was there and we hadn't seen him since college. He just moved to Houston about 3 yrs ago and it was time we finally got together! It was tres elegante! And it was so awesome to see our friend. Enor hated it after awhile though and said we should go to Big Easy; I concurred. Lots of soulless, vapid people at that hotel bar, but it was a beautiful setting and the music was killer! But we headed to Big Easy directly to see the legendary Guitar Shorty. It was a packed house and I had to watch from right up front, natch. We danced and I got another drink but didn't finish it. I was exhausted after just a few songs and had to sit down finally!

By the end of the night we still had to make one last stop, a Walgreen's stop for Boof and T, and Jon was able to call me again. Back home I know I crashed HARD. However we had a time change so we lost an hour of sleep, dammit. I was awake by 11 which wasn't enough sleep still, but I still had a big day ahead of me so it was up and at 'em! Tito J was in town and we had lunch plans! Yay! I insisted on ordering the Chicago deep dish and everyone was with me on that; however I have been to Gino's East and it seems you just can't get a true Chicago deep dish in Houston. Still, the food was great and the company better. I'm trying to make Boof and T join me in San Antonio for Tito J's April bday bash! They may actually try to make an attempt at doing so. After pizza we walked across the street for ice cream--just what I needed! Not! But it was yummy delish. We bid adieu to Tito J and headed home to my place so Boof and T could pack up and head home, another successful visit together under our belts.

I had plans to go back to Dan's by 6:30 but Boof and T didn't leave til after 5 and I still had lots of practicing to do and my file to work on. I just can't do it all, sometimes. I also had to pack for the next couple days for rodeo on Monday night and go get Jon's car and put some gas in it. I hadn't heard from him all day, sadly. But I had his itinerary so I headed to the airport in order to be there by 8:30 and sure enough, they were on time. Jon was unable to call me since they were stuck in the Mexico City airport all day. But he was back and exhausted and hurting and glad to be home. I too was tired so we crashed together back at his house.

Will recap the rodeo the last 2 nights later, which were also KILLER experiences!!!
