Saturday we didn't sleep in very late b/c we got up and just got distracted, but then we went to see this Trek 3700 bike that Jon had found for me on Craigslist, and we got the guy to knock the price down to $185 from $230 and it was a great deal so we got it and hurried home, first stopping at a local Guitar Center to poke around a bit and check out the basses. We went into what I call "The Fantasy Room" b/c it's the expensive and incredible vintage room (Jon says, "I've bought guitars out of this room" and my jaw dropped!) where the most expensive item is a 1958 Fender Strat that Jon whispered to me has the serial number of only 2 numbers off of Buddy Holly's strat!!! Jon knows this b/c it used to belong to one of his millionaire friends. Dammmmmmnnnn.
So back home we saddled up and went on a looooong bike ride, first biking to Jon's local bike shop so I could buy a water bottle, bottle frame, and nice gloves. Then we biked about 12 miles, from Jon's neighborhood to downtown to Allen Parkway and then back. My ass bones were hurting, my right hand was hurting, my left knee was hurting, and the right side of my neck was hurting and I need LOTS of practice starting and stopping, but dang, it was really great to get out there and this is waaaaaay fun exercise that Jon and I can do together!
I'd planned on spending the early part of the day w/Jon and then spending the afternoon/evening practicing, but that did not happen as our bike adventures took up most of the day. But I also NEED my exercise, man! So as dusk fell we went to Jon's friend's house (he's also Jon's neighbor) and we rode bikes back to Jon's house, had a beer, and decided to go find some excellent pannycakes for dinner. I'd actually been craving pannycakes for 2 days, so I was excited about our dinner choice. We drove to The Dot near UH and I had the huge banana nut pannycakes. Yum!!!
That night I slept HARD. Tired from only having gotten 6 hrs of sleep the night before and also from the long bike ride. So hard that unfortunately Jon started choking in the middle of the night and had to go throw up (too much greasy food at The Dot) and I didn't even wake up! He was alarmed at that, but as everyone knows, I am one hard sleeper which works out well since Jon is such a serious snorer, but that's why we work so well together in our slumber! Sunday I slept laaaaate, probably getting about 11 hrs of sleep, and ran home to change and get ready for the day and also to go see Jon play with our harmonica frenemy at their groovy grocery store patio gig. They played 12-4 and I got there about 2:30. It was a nice sunny day if a bit cool and I was craving a glass of wine but couldn't since I had a sheriff file personnel interview to do that evening at 5pm.
It was a little tough, watching Jon and my friends play that groovy gig. The bassist also brought his custom 5-string fretless bass just so I could play it during a break and see how I liked it. I had to tell the drummer why I was no longer playing w/Leo. In short, I was like, "Damn, I got no gig anymore" and there are my boyfriend and friends gigging. Sigh. Oh well. I gotta just get my ass to the woodshed and be grateful I've time for that now.
