- When he chain smokes I know that means he is extremely anxious/uptight about something and that consequently makes me a little uptight wondering what's going on. (In this case it was trying to make it to N'awlins in good time.)
- The stank in the damn car
- His rolling the car windows down and it was literally about 110 degrees outside
So we checked into our room and he called his sister who was staying in a nearby hotel. We made plans to meet her and her daughter and then go lunch at Mother's, one of my fave places to eat and which was located a mere 2 blocks from our hotel! But on the way to try and find them Stefano was trying to light yet another damn cigarette and he dropped his iPhone on the sidewalk. The screen went white and nothing could fix it. Fortunately we actually ran into his sister and her daughter on the damn street, so that was quite fortuitous! Because it was a Friday afternoon Mother's did not have a line out the door and down the street for once, and we only had to wait a few minutes for a table. It's been years since I ate there and it was fun to get to go back!
It was a nice lunch and we all split the famous bread pudding. Then we made plans for the next day to go and help his niece move into her dorm at Tulane. I was feeling very excited for her--the big adventure of college right before her! Then Stefano and I had to go to the AT&T store to seek help for his phone but they directed us to the nearest Apple Store, at the mall in Metarie!!! Lame, man. So we had to go get his car from the hotel and scoot over to Metarie. Fortunately I had Job #1's iPhone w/me and I was having a good time playing w/the maps feature which is very groovy! The mall expedition only took about an hour and a half (the Apple store was packed) but they replaced his screen for free, which was awesome since the warranty had already expired, so he lucked out!
We went back to civilization and our hotel and decided it was time for the rooftop pool! Since the sky had been threatening rain when we pulled into town there was no one up there, so we had the whole pool and hot tub and roof all to ourselves! We spent time in the hot tub b/c the pool was kinda cold. It was decadent and sooooooo wonderful. After that we got ready to go out to the Vieux Carre, natch. Stefano hadn't been to N'awlins in about 12 yrs. so I had to navigate us around initially when we set out on foot; I always remember where everything is every time I land in the French Quarter area. It's almost instinct! I took my cup of ice/Coke Zero/Crown with me.
On our to-do list was go buy a voodoo doll for his niece, so of course we headed to the Marie Laveau shop. I always pay a visit every time I'm in town anyway. We also had drinks at the famous Old Absinthe House on Bourbon, where I don't think I'd ever been before?! I had their mojito which was KILLER, even if it did cost $12 fuckin dollars!!! Hey, it was an experience. Later we stopped in a dacquiri place (I was kicking myself for leaving my notorious famous green cup from the NYE Trip of '08-'09 at home in Houston!) and got these wonderful jello shots that came in these huge plastic syringes--2/$5! Hell of a deal!!!
We walked all over the Quarter and of course we went down to the river to worship it and take my customary river picture. Back on Bourbon St. I got Stefano some silver beads (they were thrown and landed in the street) but I was so incredibly tired I really couldn't stay out too late. I was going on fumes, man, on about 15 hrs of sleep the past 4 nights, TOTAL. On the way back to the hotel we stopped in some restaurant and he got some oysters on the 1/2 shell and I got some nachos; then we headed home and I passed OUT.
Ok, Pt. 3 gonna hafta wait. I'm at Job #2 and need to head home to Stefano. Last night I played a last-minute gig w/his band and I'm so glad b/c I need the $ for my Gallien-Kruger head that I need to buy in a couple weeks from Rozzy, who's giving me an incredible deal. The Leo Trio's legendary gig that was scheduled for this Saturday got cancelled and I was counting on that $ so I truly appreciate Stefano's band calling me for their backup last night! The gig also included drinks, food, and even dessert (pecan cobbler ala mode!). Busy fucking weekend coming up, I gotta totally learn these songs tomorrow for sure, and Leo's gonna throw a party tomorrow night in lieu of our gig. Oh yeah and I also have some Sheriff Personnel work to do--haven't forgotten that's another job of mine! Sunday is busy with a benefit for one of our most beloved local musicians and then I've got the audition w/Aaron and the famous singer. Praying I get it, I have to say!
