Ok, so I managed to finally get well enough where I wasn't hacking and coughing and mucus-ing and was able to mostly enjoy my weekend except for some of Sunday, but more on that in a minute. Jon and I stayed at my house all weekend long and he chose my outfit for his CD Release party: one of my new sexy sweaters from Victoria's Secretions, black leggings, and my thigh-high leather/suede boots. We had to get to the Big Easy waaaaay early, like 8:15pm so he could set up and when we got there the parking lot was already packed. He had wondered if the BE would be a big enough venue and now we weren't so sure!
Ma and Fred were already there and so was Jon's ex-GF and her parents. They were all sitting at the same table so that was a nice coincidence! Unfortunately my li'l bro couldn't make it after all as he was feeling sickly, and my dad never showed up but that's not a total surprise. Everyone kept asking me if I was going to get up and play and I said that I hadn't planned on it, that it would be up to the bass player if he wanted to take a break or not. Anyway, it was good times, although that damn Leo never showed up either, nor Phillipo but who cares b/c eventually the venue was as packed as I'd ever seen it--literally elbow to elbow. Jon's parents got to meet my mom finally and they joined them at their table. It got to be so packed that I realized that the most room would be on the dance floor so that's where me and Jon's ex-GF and her mom and Jon's cousin and his mom ended up spending most of our time. In fact, that's where I spent ALL my time!
It really was a fun night and a veritable who's who of the Houston blues community. My mom joined the Houston Blues Society so she could get the t-shirt and she ended up winning one of Jon's CD's in the raffle! (She'd already bought 4; I got her a discount on them.) Later on my Aunt P and Uncle J showed up, plus a filmmaker friend of mine and my dad's that I hadn't seen in forever! However this really sweet guy who I met at one of Jon's gigs showed up and he knew I liked white wine (he had bought me some at the gig I met him at) and he took it upon himself to bring me 2 glasses of wine throughout the duration of the night. I drank them on top of my 2 drinks for my 2-drink maximum, which was this delicious Deep Eddy's Sweet Tea Flavoured Vodka! So not only did I irresponsibly double my drink maximum, I mixed drinks on top of that. On top of THAT Jon and I barely had time to eat any dinner before the show and I had run out to grab us a couple of sandwiches but I only had time to eat 1/2 of mine, so my stomach was definitely not full and then I danced most of it off anyway.
Finally, it was all over and Jon and Rich had a truly successful event. I lost an earring and my dogs were barking from dancing in my 3-inch heels. When we got home I ate the rest of my sandwich but I was pretty drunk. I demonstrated the 3 Standard Field Sobriety Tests to Jon and I failed all 3 of them, yuk yuk! The next morning Jon wanted to get up and go eat around 10am. I had a splitting headache and couldn't move. Around noon he tried to rouse me again. I begged him to get me a pain pill. He said "You are a pain pill!" which was hilarious. Finally around 2pm I managed to drag myself out of bed b/c he suggested Chinese buffet which I actually did not think was a bad idea. Grease always does my hangovers good, and lo mein, mmmmm!
I couldn't believe mixing 4 drinks was hurting me so bad; then again I've been on the 2-drink maximum since Thanksgiving so I supposed my tolerance has meandered down. The buffet was good but I had a rough time at first and had to scope out a clear path to the bathroom just in case; fortunately it all stayed down. Then we went to get cinnamon buns at IKEA, then we went to the grocery store to get banana pudding and other snacks for the football game that evening. Back at home we totally chilled out; Jon watched the game and I sat next to him on the couch and worked on my latest sheriff file and vegged. It was a great ending to a fun weekend.
In other news, I got some mindblowing news from Mudflap yesterday: He's going to be a daddy!!! He broke up w/Isa last fall and reconnected w/his 1st girlfriend from junior high. They started dating in October and now she's 6 weeks pregnant! Also, the friend of Jon's whose Christmas party we went to is also pregnant. With my girlfriends L and JFu also knocked up, it kinda makes me want to be as well. But I won't just yet! Jon and I still have some fun we need to have. However, I did take my OB/GYN's advice and have started taking a multivitamin w/lots o' Folic Acid.
Finally, I did my taxes yesterday. I done good this year, which almost but not quite makes up for the painful hurt of that $3000+ tax bill of last year. Now I'll be getting over $1K back, which I'm not totally happy about (I don't believe in tax refunds) but which will come in handy fo' sho'! Now I just need to adjust my withholding at Job #2 so I don't get such a big refund next year, or break even if at all possible.
